To understand what rakeback is we'll first explain what rake is and how it works:
Rake: Online poker rooms make their money by automatically taking a cut of the players' stake money; this is called the 'rake'. Typically the rake is 5% of every pot. Playing a few hundred hands a month soon accumulates a large amount of rake, and you could be paying tens of thousands of $$$ a year in rake!
Rakeback: This is a portion of the rake you have paid that you can get back (hence rakeback) through the various reward systems available. Players can get up to 80% of their rake money back through a rakeback professional.
Some poker rooms allow retagging and some don't. It can vary from time to time depending on your accounts history and if it's already tagged. If your account is tagged then it means it's already tracked to another affiliate. You might've signed up via another affiliate site, you can accidentally have clicked an ad or have been tracked in some other way. What we can do is attempt to retag your existing poker accounts and see what the poker rooms say. Every case is unique and our experience is that it's always worth trying to make sure you get the best possible deals out there with RakeTheRake.
Please submit your retag request and we'll check with the poker room and let you know as soon as possible.
There are several basic methods of rake calculation:
- Dealt cards - If you are dealt cards in a hand then you are deemed to have contributed to the pot and therefore you are allocated an equal share of the rake taken. This is regardless of whether you fold straight away or not. If for example the rake taken on a particular table is $3 and there are six of you playing, then your rake consideration is $0.50.
Examples: partypoker, PokerStars - Average contributed - Similar to the dealt cards method as above in terms of the calculation, but you must contribute at least something to the pot. If you fold without contributing to the pot then your rake consideration is zero. If for example the pot on a particular table was $60 the rake taken is $3. Even if you contributed only $2 to the pot and there are six of you playing (but two folded pre-flop) then you get allocated a quarter of the rake as 4 people in total contributed to the pot.
Examples: N/A - Weighted contributed - You simply get allocated the weighted proportion of the pot that you contributed. If for example the pot was $60, the rake taken is $3. If you put in $2 to the pot then your rake consideration is (2/60 * $3) or $0.10.
Examples: Unibet. - RPV Rakeback - Calculated based on the following formula:
RPV = (0.5 ORG) + (0.5 SBR) + MTT fees
Where:
RPV = Real Player Value
ORG = Original Rake / Fee
SBR = Source Based Rake / Fee
MTT = Multi Table Tournament PVI Rakeback - The GG Network work off their own model which attributes rake to players based on some secret formula about winnings/losses. What this means is that as a winning player you may get a lot less rake attributed to your play. This means you may get a lot less rakeback than you might be expecting. This method is exclusive to the GG Network.
Rakeback payment varies from room to room. For some it's weekly, some monthly and for some cashback rewards programs you will need to manually exchange your points for rewards or cash to make a payment. Please have a look at the program details on text on the poker room page for full payment details. If you can't find the info there then please contact the poker room via the contact details on the poker room page.
In general poker tracking software is not an accurate reflection of the rake you have paid at any poker room. This is because they (the poker tracking software) tend to use the Dealt Method of rake calculation. This does not account for the majority of poker rooms on networks that use alternative methods of rake calculation. In addition these systems do not take in to account bonuses that have been deducted or any transaction fees or other costs that a poker room might be deducting. Also the data that we get from the poker rooms for your rakeback statistics are often 24-48 hours behind real time whereas poker tracking software tends to be live.
Some poker rooms deduct things from rake before rakeback is calculated. Please see individual sign up pages for details of fees. Your account summary also provides a breakdown of monthly deductions.
To ensure that the ratings on RakeTheRake are objective and impartial, all work from a formula based on what the partner offer. In other words; they get rewarded for offering additional features and improved deals to our players. So the better the deal, the better rating they will have with the maximum being ten points/stars.
For casino, sports betting, slots and bingo the ratings work of the following variables:
All partners get four base points. This is based on them being certified to be offered on RakeTheRake and to balance the ratings.
Every partner that offers a bonus gets one point.
The rest of the ratings are based on the pros and cons in the review of the partner. Pros and cons come from the Latin prō (“for, on behalf of”) and contrā (“against”). For example having a good selection of games and a solid customer service are pros that will reward the partner with extra points and on the other hand having a small selection of games, a limited bonus or even no bonus will result in minus points for the partner.
The partner get one point per pro with a maximum of five points. Cons means a 0.33 point deduction in the rating with a maximum of one minus points. If a partner has too many cons then we simply won't offer them on RakeTheRake.
The ratings are a living thing and as we add more data to the offers on RakeTheRake we will have more variables to work with for our calculation. At the end of the day the whole purpose is to show you, our members, what partners are offering more and which are offering less. All to ensure you can get the best possible deals in gambling.
