Once Jerry Yang had been guaranteed a share of the 2007 WSOP prize money, he pledged to donate 10% of his total winnings to Loma Linda University (where he earned a Master's degree in Health psychology), and his three charities of choice; the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Feed The Children, and the Ronald McDonald House.
Xao "Jerry" Yang started playing poker in 2005. Shortly after, he won a $225 satellite at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California, and entered the 2007 World Series of Poker. Yang made it to the final table and knocked out the eight other players over the course of twelve hours to win an incredible $8,250,000.
Yang was born in Laos, but his family escaped to Thailand in the 1970's when the communists took over. Jerry Yang and his family spent four years in a refugee camp after escaping to Thailand, and sadly lost a brother and a sister in this period. Prior to becoming a poker pro, Yang worked as a psychotherapist and a social worker. He now lives in Madera, California with his wife, and their six children.
