Peter Eastgate sold his WSOP bracelet for $100,000 so that he could give money to UNICEF. He donated the full $100,000 to the charity.
Peter Eastgate was first introduced to poker by his classmates while he was still in Dalum - a suburb of Odense, Denmark. He went on to study Economics at Aarhus University, but dropped out to pursue poker full-time.
Perhaps Eastgate's most significant victory to date is his 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event win, which saw him take the first place prize of $9,152,416. Following his big WSOP, Peter cashed in the European Poker Tour and finished second in the 2009 London EPT. As of 2010, Eastgate's live tournament winnings amounted to nearly $11 million.
In July 2010 Peter Eastgate released a statement through his sponsor - PokerStars.com - saying that he would be taking a break from live tournament poker. He commented that it was only ever his intention to play poker until he became financially independent, and that he had lost his motivation for playing high-level poker in the 20 months following his WSOP win. In February 2011 Eastgate announced that he would be returning to poker.
