Before becoming a poker pro Channing worked as a bookmaker at numerous UK racecourses. He is still very interested and involved in the world of betting, and often attends large events like The Cheltenham Festival and The Grand National.
Neil Channing is both a professional poker player and author. Born in Reading, he now lives in Maida Vale, London. He started gaining some notoriety by successfully grinding out a living wage on a daily basis at the Grovesner Victoria Casino, but around 2007 he began to turn his attention to live tournament poker.
Channing writes a regular column for 'Bluff' magazine and is a co-founder and active promoter of the site Black Belt Poker (www.blackbeltpoker.com) for which he writes regular blog posts. In keeping with his association with Black Belt Poker, Channing has been seen in martial arts clothing at the poker table.
Although he has not as yet managed to win an WSOP bracelet he has cashed over twenty five times in WSOP/E events. As of 2011, Neil Channings total live tournament winnings amounted to more than $2,900,000 putting him in 10th place on the UK all-time money list.
Neil Channing also has something of a reputation for backing other poker players. Amongst other instances of staking/backing other players, he sponsored eight poker players in 2009 with $20k WSOP packages under Black Belt Poker.
