PokerStars Rakeback Refusal Causes Joe Cada and Stars to Split
By RTR Dennis
26 year old poker pro Joe Cada, who has won over $10 million from live tournament poker, recently chucked in his PokerStars Pro Team towel following a refused request that the room pay him 100% rakeback.
Joe Cada was signed to PokerStars after he won the 2009 WSOP Main Event, taking $8.5 million. Since then he’s performed consistently in live tournament poker. His most recent success came at this year’s World Series of Poker, where Cada took down event #32 - the $10k No Limit Six-Handed for $670,041.
But shortly after this latest live tourney cash, PokerStars and Joe Cada have parted ways. Cada shared his reasons for the split in the following tweet...
“If everyone is wondering what happened with Poker Stars and myself it’s pretty simple. I asked for 100 percent rake back, they said no. I asked for zero money. I just wanted the rake back that I used to get.”
Having stated that he wanted no money, and was happy to continue being a PokerStars pro team member, it came as a shock to many that Joe Cada and Stars split – and many poker fans and fellow pros were happy to weigh in on the debate.
Ryan Laplante tweeted in support of Cada:
“That’s absurd that they wouldn’t give you it. Makes me worried about Amaya and @PokerStars going forward tbh. Not good.”
Whereas Jonathan Aguiar seemed to be taking the side of PokerStars
“Giving a winning high volume player 100% rakeback has a huge cost to operator. Better to pass along as player rewards.”
