2014 PCA Main Event to guarantee $10 Million
By RTR Dennis
For those who aren't already excited about the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Main Event, PokerStars is now guaranteeing a $10 million prize pool. This is particularly notable because Stars has never put a guarantee on the PCA Main Event before.
David Carrion, who's the Director of Live Operations for the PCA and Latin America, discussed this historic move by the world's largest poker site. "This is the first time we’ve put a guarantee on the Main Event, and we’re hoping the $10 million purse will help smash last year’s field of 987 players," he said. "But it wasn’t just about the Main Event in 2013 - the festival generated more than 6,000 total entries and more than $28 million in prize pools across all events, with over 200 runners in the $25,000 High Roller."
As Carrion points out, the PCA has grown into a massive poker festival with lots of different tournaments. However, most players' eyes will be on the 2014 PCA Main Event, which runs from January 5th-13th at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Anybody who's interested in playing can either pay the hefty $10,300 buy-in, or win their seat through one of the many qualifiers at PokerStars.
There are satellites as low as $1.10, while Mega Path Qualifiers enable players to win a PCA ME seat absolutely free! For the cost of just 10 FPPs, you could be competing for a $10.3k seat. Considering that four of the past 10 PCA ME champions have come through qualifiers, it's definitely worth playing for spot in this huge tournament.
Bulgaria's Dimitar Danchev is one of the winners who came from a satellite. He topped a 987-player field in last year's event and scooped a $1,859,000 prize. Considering that the 2013 PCA prize pool was $9,573,900, this year's winner will make even more money thanks to the $10 million guarantee.
