No Ho for Pro: Greg "Fossilman" Raymer in Prostitution Sting
By RTR Dennis
2004 WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Raymer has received a misdemeanour prostitution charge and one charge of attempted crime against nature when he arranged to meet a prostitute in a North Carolina Hotel, but was instead greeted by a police officer.
Wake Forest Police explained that the 48-year-old poker pro - known on the poker circuit as Fossilman - was one of six men to respond to advertisements placed by undercover police on a website that prostitutes use to arrange meetings with prospective clients. When Greg Raymer showed up for his date with a prostitute, he was almost certainly sorely disappointed to find a local law enforcement officer.
Raymer is perhaps best known for winning a WSOP Main Event Bracelet in 2004, but his bungled attempt to hook up with a prostitute may now overshadow that achievement. Speaking on his client’s behalf, Raymer’s lawyer Wade M. Smith stated:
“Mr. Raymer is very sorry for this lapse in judgement. He regrets deeply the pain he has caused his family, friends and fans. Mr. Raymer is grateful for the many expressions of support he has received.”
Greg Raymer was released from jail after posting a $1k bond, and has a court date of 18th April. The former patent attorney turned poker pro has earned over $7 million playing No Limit Texas Hold ‘em and Blackjack. He currently resides in a $1.6 million house with his wife Cheryl and their daughter... although it’s fair to assume that situation might change very soon.
