WSOP 2020 Schedule: Early Look at Events, Schedule & Location
By RTR Dennis
The 2020 World Series of Poker is several months down the road. However, organizers have already released plenty of details on the schedule, events, and location. You can get an early glimpse at the 2020 WSOP schedule below.
Dates of 2020 WSOP
The complete lineup for the 2020 World Series of Poker hasn’t been released yet. However, the broad range of WSOP dates are available.
The 51st annual running of this famed tournament series begins on May 26. This start date is a few days earlier than the normal May 31 beginning point.
This series will wrap up on July 15, at the conclusion of the 2020 WSOP Main Event. In all, bracelet events will run over the course of 51 days.
Big 50, Seniors NLHE Among Returning Tournaments
Again, organizers are still deciding on which events to bring back this year. However, they’ve already announced that certain favorites will be on the schedule once again.
The Big 50 headlines the early list of returning events. Last year, this $500 buy-in tourney featured a record 28,371 entries. Femi Fashakin triumphed over the massive field and collected a $1,147,499 payout.
The $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold’em Championship is another event that’ll return. This tourney starts on June 18 and is open to anybody aged 55 and older.
Of course, the WSOP Main Event will return for a 51st consecutive year. It starts on July 1 and will run until July 14.
Germany’s Hossein Ensan won last year’s Main Event along with $10 million. He defeated the second-largest Main Event field in history at 8,569 players. ESPN and ESPN 2 will cover the Main Event final table from July 12-14.
Other Prominent Tournaments that Are Coming Back
In addition to the events discussed above, the WSOP will bring back the following tournaments:
- May 27 – $550 Casino Employees
- June 5 – $1,500 Millionaire Maker
- June 12 – $1,500 Monster Stack
- June 17 – $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em
- June 19 – $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold’em
- June 22 – $1,000 Super Seniors Age 60+
- June 24 – $565 The Colossus
- June 26 – $888 Crazy Eights 8-Handed
- July 4 – $1,111 Little One Drop
- July 15 – $1,000 The Closer
The Millionaire Maker has been extremely popular over the last few years. Guaranteeing $1 million to the winner, it featured 8,809 players last year.
The Monster Stack, which starts entrants off with a monster chip stack, is another crowd favorite. It has drawn at least 5,500 players every year of its existence.
Many WSOP enthusiasts will be happy to know that The Colossus is returning for a sixth year. It’ll feature a $400 buy-in—lower than the normal $565 entry—and likely compete with the Big 50 for most overall entries.
Rio Once Again Hosting the WSOP
Much discussion has occurred regarding the World Series of Poker’s future location. After all, many players have complained publicly to organizers about the dilapidating Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino. These complaints revolve around the leaky roof, lack of amenities, and timey feeling.
The WSOP will no doubt switch locations in the near future. After all, Caesars Entertainment sold the Rio to a real-estate company for $516.3 million.
However, Caesars will continue running the Rio for two more years. This being the case, they’ve chosen to run the WSOP at the Rio for at least one more year.
Caesars Convention Center could very well host the world’s largest poker tournament series in the future. But until it’s officially finished, the Rio may represent the best current option. It has the space to accommodate the numerous players who descend upon Vegas every summer.
