Patrik Antonius wins record-breaking $1,978,000 pot
By RTR Sarah
Patrik Antonius made history on Sunday, 19 February by taking home the largest pot ever broadcast on a poker live stream in the United States.
On Sunday night, Patrik Antonius won $1,978,000 in the ‘Cash of the Titans’ series of No Gamble, No Future. Andy Keating's previous record for largest pot won on a United States live stream was beaten by $820,000, having won $1,158,000 on Hustler Casino Live back in December 2022. Antonius’ win, however, did not manage to beat the worldwide record of a $2.3 million pot from Triton Poker’s 2018 Jeju Cash Game.
This isn’t the first time Antonius, a renowned high stakes poker player from Finland, has broken records. In 2009, Antonius broke the record for the largest online poker pot by beating Viktor “Isildur1” Blom on Full Tilt Poker for $1,356,974.
The game
Six players bought into No Gamble, No Future ‘Cash of the Titans’ for $1 million, including Antonius, Eric Persson, Andrew Robl, Rob Yong, Markus Gonsalves, and Matthew “MJ” Gonzales. Each player also set aside $100,000 as a side bet for the player who finished with the most profit, who would walk away with an additional $600,000.
The cash game took place at the PokerGO Studio, part of the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and lasted for three days. Each day, a pair of three hour levels were played. The blinds escalated with each new level, Day 1 beginning at $500/$500 and Day 3 starting at $1,000/$2,000 with a $2,000 big blind.
Antonius’ victory
On the third and final day, Antonius beat Persson to win the record-breaking $1,978,000 pot. Persson lost his $1 million buy-in alongside the $100,000 side bet
Robl left with $1,796,000 in profit, $1 million more than his opponents.
When Antonius beat Persson to win the $1.9 million pot, commentator Jeff Platt excitedly announced that it was “the biggest pot in U.S. televised poker history!” Platt’s co-host Brent Hanks observed that Antonius' win was “a moment that will go down in the poker hall of fame.”
